Dear adrian richards I am looking into having an abdominoplasty done My reasons for this are when I was pregnant with my 2nd child ( he is now 3!) I had an emergency open cholecystectomy at 14 weeks gestation. I am keen to know whether you would consider me a candidate for abdominoplasty despite this. Look forward to hearing from you Thanks Donna Dady |

Hi Donna Thank you for your enquiry. There are 2 ways of removing your gall bladder - an open approach and more recently an laporoscopic approach. The open approach was the mainstay of treatment until the last 10 years. In this an angled incision is made in the upper part of your abdomen. In the more recent laporoscopic techinique telescopes are used and the scars are much smaller. It sounds as if you have had the open technique and you have a scar in the upper part of your abdomen on the right side. This scar cuts through some of the blood vessels that supply blood to the skin below it. For this reason some surgeons are reluctant to perform tummy tuck procedures (abdominoplasty) on anyone who has this scar. By carefully preserving the blood vessels that come to the tummy skin by other routes it is possible to perform a tummy tuck procedure safely. In order to assess whether it would be possible for you it would be best to meet you in clinic and examine you tummy. We would then be able to discuss if the procedure was safe for you. I hope this has been helpful. We look forward to seeing you soon With best wishes Adrian Richards Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon |
